Artworks
Welcome to my FlowerArt.
Here you will see my range of works that mix pressed flowers with hand-painted textural backgrounds.
Created over a few weeks, with one or two weeks needed for pressing the flowers.
The layouts are very much created from either a style of design, for instance I used William Morris as an inspiration for some of my artworks, or sometimes I am influenced just by the flowers themselves.
I hand-paint the base possibly building up layers of textures or creating a layout design. I then arrange the flowers on the base, and once I am happy with the arrangement, the pressed flowers, stems, leaves, etc, are stuck down onto the painted paper base, which is later finished with a coat of medium to protect the plants and paint from UV light.
I have tried wherever possible to recycle, reuse, or use sustainable materials. I firstly use upcycled picture frames that have either been given to me or come from charity shops. I re-use paper for pressing the flowers with, and bought some second-hand flower presses.
To help sustain the life of the artworks (as flowers can fade if placed in direct sunlight) I have tried where possible to use Museum Grade perspex that will help to diffuse the UV light.
All works are mounted on acid-free board, with acid free tape, which helps to resist yellowing, brittleness, and deterioration, ensuring longevity and preserving the quality of the artwork.
